Johns Hopkins University reported 775,306 cases of the coronavirus around the world and 37,904 deaths on Monday.
In the United States, there were 160,020 cases and 2953 deaths. Italy saw 4,050 new cases and has had 101,739 cases in total.
New York has the highest COVID-19 confirmed cases and deaths. Hospitals are stretched to the limit and the federal government is sending much needed help.
State governor Andrew Cuomo issued an urgent plea for medical volunteers to help and a Navy hospital ship arrived in New York.
The U.S. Navy’s hospital ship, the USNS Comfort, with 1,000 beds arrived at a Manhattan port on Monday to help treat non-COVID-19 patients and ease the pressure on area hospitals.
“Please come help us in New York now. We need relief,” Gov. Cuomo said.
Maryland governor Larry Hogan also issued a stay-at-home order Monday as the coronavirus cases surpassed 1,400.
Russia closed it’s borders and going into lockdown on Monday after a spike in COVID-19 infections.
Over 13 million residents will stay at home and all international flights also halted.
So far, Russia has 1,836 confirmed cases and nine deaths, but the number of people testing positive has quickly risen in recent days.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that ordering Muscovites to stay home starting Monday except for medical emergencies and runs to nearby shops.
Spain has now overtaken China in reported coronavirus infections. It now has the third highest rate, after the U.S. and Italy.
Madrid marked a minute of silence to honor those who died of the virus.
The capital city is also converting a convention center into a temporary hospital.
It will house 1,400 beds and an intensive care unit – specifically for coronavirus patients.
People in Argentina will be staying home for at least two more weeks.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced the extension of social distancing guidelines until April 30.
Coronavirus continues to spread globally, over 755,000 cases confirmed with 36,211 deaths has been reported in 201 countries and territories according to Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
